GFCI, Surge Protector From Belkin, Humidifier

A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) opens the circuit when the current difference between Neutral and Hot wire is over 4 mA. Couple of weeks ago what was happening that everytime I switched to different speed of the humidifier (motor inside), since it was an inductive load, it was cauing the GFCI receptacle to trip due to inherited nature of inductor (reactive voltage / reverse voltage /arching etc.); I was thinking to build the snubber circuit myself but then decided to first find and test the surge protector - the one shown in the picture above. Home Depot folks were not optimistic that it will work. There is nothing wrong in testing especially if you can return it. Bought one and later end up buying one more because it worked. I even did the stress test by switching to different speed levels faster; no tripping at all. Give it a try yourself and let me know how was your experience. Enjoy!

Klean-Strip Polyurethane Stripper

If you are contractor, off course, you should not use stripping polyurethane way because this will not be quick solution; instead sand the skin off from customer's floor using a ruthless commercial belt-sander. If you are do-it-yourself person and if you are related to the house e.g. home-owner, parent's house etc. then I will recommend stripping the floor using water-base stripping solution. The one shown in the figure is from Klean-Strip. Read the instruction before using it. It can burn your skin, therefore requires rubber gloves. Apply it to 4 feet by 4 feet area and before it completely dries strip it off using the 2 inch wide stripper/scrapper especially the one with which you can attach the rod in the back. This way you can strip the polyurethane while in standing position. Once the whole floor is stripped, use the mineral spirit as shown in figure 1

as shown in figure 2 to clean the floor. If the wood is old and still dirty use Antique Furniture Refinisher as shown in figure 3

. Make sure you have super adequate ventilation and read the instructions. After this process, let the floor to dry for 4 to 6 hours then stain it using Winmax stainer as shown in figure 4

to make sure the whole floor gets a smooth look color-wise. Do not forget to wipe the extra strainer right after completing the floor. After this, let the floor to dry for another 6 hours. Next step will be the application of polyurethane but before that you need to make sure there is no dust or any particle on the floor otherwise it will stick to the floor forever.

Ziplock Effect Of Polyurethane

If you place a slightly thicker layer of High-build (not the super-fast one) Polyurethane on the floor, what will happen that the top layer will dry faster because of direct exposure to air, therefore, forming an air-tight protective layer over the bottom Polyurethane fluid. It's just like as if you put water in a Ziplock (air-tight) bag and wait for it get dry. Although the container reads that High-build/Regular Polyurethane dries in 24 hours which is actually the time it takes for the top layer to dry. The day you encounter the Ziplock Effect of Polyurethane, remember that it will now take 3 to 6 weeks for the Polyurethane to properly harden in order to avoid wrinkles by pressure slide, heavy traffic/utilization or furniture move.

Do Not Buy High-Build Instead Buy Fast Drying

According to Minwax - the company that supplies Polyurethane both High Build and Fast Drying to HomeDepot and Lowes here in USA; High Build Polyurethane dries in 24 hours - guys this is a joke and a very big fat lie. It's a horrible lie; it takes 3 weeks to 6 weeks for this to properly dry so that you can move/place your furniture on otherwise wherever there is a slide\pressue there will be wrinkles. I ended up doing my floor twice; do not ask me about how painful it is to redo a freshly done Polyurethane job. Always buy a Fast Drying or Ultra-fast drying formula from Winmax. HomeDepot had some old boxes and there was no such option of Fast Drying; I guess all sold-out; eded-up getting High Build. Took me two months for one floor.
